Celebrations!
Have you had something really exciting happen in relation to literacy and your school? Maybe a reluctant colleague approached you about trying something new. Maybe you modeled a lesson that worked really well. Or maybe you’ve just received some really great feedback from teachers and/or students. Whatever the case, do share! All cool news should be posted in this thread, so we’ll have one big list of celebrations!

I finally put on my big girl panties and stepped out there on the edge. I was not on the agenda to speak or share anything at our last faculty meeting, but I came prepared to do so. I was a little apprehensive, but when the principal asked if anyone else had something to say, I stood up and share a reading strategy with the faculty. I made it simple, short, and to the point. One of my study group teachers bolstered me with positive comments. Many teachers came to me to ask if I could demonstrate the strategy with them and I agreed. I also presented reading and writing strategies to ELA and Social Studies teachers at a district-wide staff development. I received an abundance of positive feedback.
I held mid-term conferences with each study group member in January, and I am overwhelmed with the feedback! Somehow, these wonderful folks all came to similar realizations about their own learning, how children read, and the roles they play in the literate lives of their students. The best thing I have done with my study group to date!
